Who we are
This website is run by Aaron Barbara, trading as Owlbrook Puzzles, in Malta. For anything about your personal data, email info@owlbrookpuzzles.com.
What we collect, and why
Newsletter sign-ups
If you join The Curious Minds Club or ask to be notified about a book, we collect your email address, your first name if you give it, the book you're interested in, and the date you signed up. We use this only to send you the emails you asked for. Our legal basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time using the unsubscribe link in every email or by emailing us.
Sign-ups are sent to our mailbox and kept in our email-marketing service, MailerLite (UAB MailerLite, Lithuania, EU), which acts as our data processor. We keep your details until you unsubscribe.
Contact form and emails
If you write to us, we receive your name, email address and message so we can reply. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering you. We keep the conversation for as long as needed to deal with it, and no longer than two years.
Website hosting
Like every website, ours runs on a web server (our host is GoDaddy). The server automatically keeps short-term technical logs, such as IP addresses and the pages requested, to keep the site secure and working. We don't use these logs to identify you.
Things stored on your own device
The site remembers a few conveniences in your browser's local storage: the Amazon store you chose, and your progress in the Owl Hunt. This information stays on your device and is never sent to us. You can clear it at any time in your browser settings.
What we don't do
- No advertising or tracking cookies, and no third-party analytics.
- Our fonts and images are served from our own website, not from third-party services.
- We never sell, rent or share your details with anyone for marketing.
Links to Amazon and other sites
Our "Buy on Amazon" buttons and share links take you to other websites, such as Amazon and Facebook. Once you are there, their own privacy policies apply. When you buy one of our books, Amazon is the seller: we never see your name, address or payment details.
Some Amazon links contain an Amazon Associates tag. As an Amazon Associate, Owlbrook Puzzles earns from qualifying purchases, and Amazon may use cookies to record that you arrived from our site.
Your rights
Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation you can ask to see the personal data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, or receive a copy in a portable format. Email info@owlbrookpuzzles.com and we'll respond within one month.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to Malta's data protection authority, the Information and Data Protection Commissioner (idpc.org.mt).
Children
Our books and newsletter are aimed at adults. We don't knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16.
Changes
If we change how we use personal data, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
